Smooth Muscle Tumors of the Gastrointestinal Tract

Abstract

|
Smooth muscle tumors (leiomyoma, leiomyosarcoma and leiomyoblastoma) comprised 1. 7 per cent of all the tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Most of them occurred in the 5th decade and in male. Higher portion of tumors were malignant and located in the stomach. Abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding and a palpable mass were the main symptoms and signs. Although incorrect still, radiologic finding was a clue of diagnosis. Resectability of the smooth muscle tumor was 90 per cent even though it´ was far advanced and there were neither complications nor mortalities.
